Kentucky Professional Firefighters

Hello. My name is Tara Black and I am Captain with the Covington Fire Department. Let me tell you about my friend, Chip Terry...

In 2017, Retired Assistant Chief Alan “Chip” Terry lost his battle with PTSD and took his own life. He was not only a dedicated firefighter to the City of Covington for nearly 30 years, he was also a friend, mentor, husband, father of six, and grandfather of one (now two). He, along with many other first responders, struggled with Post Traumatic Stress Injuries which can lead to many problems, including suicide.

As a result of his suicide, Chip’s wife Jo and their children have created the Chip Terry Fund and are on a mission to help other families avoid the loss of their loved one, who has devoted his/her life to serving others. The mission of the Chip Terry Fund is to provide educational, financial and emotional support and counseling to police, fire, and other emergency personnel and their families, particularly those affected by PTSD and other occupational related stress disorders. To learn more you can go to thechipterryfund.org.

Chip or Chief Terry, would often walk into a room full of firefighters and say, “Let me tell you buttholes something…” and then laugh. When designing a t-shirt to honor Chip this quote immediately came to mind. The helmet featured on the front is Chip’s helmet.

T-shirts are $22.00 each and a portion of the proceeds will be donated directly to the Chip Terry Fund.
The t-shirt is unisex and fits true to size. Available in sizes small-3X.
This is a preorder and will be available to order now through this Sunday, 3/28. You will be notified when the t-shirts have been received and shipped to you.
If you are interested in purchasing a T-shirt to benefit the Chip Terry Fund, click here:

Thank you,

Tara Black
Captain, Covington Fire Department

April 11-17 is National Public Safety Telecommunications Week, thank you to all the dispatchers across the United States & Canada that play a critical role in answering emergency calls, sending help and ensuring the safety of all first responders and the public.
On this Veterans Day and Remembrance Day, we honor and express our gratitude to the men and women who serve in our military. Thank you for your service!
Today September 18 is POW/MIA Recognition Day. We would like to honor and thank these Heroes!
The current situation does not allow your firefighters to collect for Muscular Dystrophy this year, but like everything else we are adapting because children still need help from MDA.

We are asking citizens of the Commonwealth to virtually Fill The Boot for MDA.

Please have a fun and safe Summer but please be mindful of young children around water.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family, friends and coworkers of Brother Kuchar.

Rest easy brother, well take it from here.
Thank you Governor Andy Beshear for extending the childcare exemption to firefighters and other public safety personnel. It is a burden that is lifted for many of our members so they can to continue serving our communities through this crisis.

Candles are a leading cause of house fires. Be safe this holiday season. #IAFF #KPFF
Ain’t this the truth!! Fact is Kentucky Firefighters put large sums of their own paycheck into a retirement system. Yet, the board allows hedge funds to take millions in high fees and high risk investments from theses retirement systems.
For those going to attend the Highlands football game on September 20th please stop by the Fort Thomas Public House before the game and mention the Ft. Thomas Firefighters and portion of your bill will go to benefit The Muscular Dystrophy Association.
The August meeting of the Kentucky Fire Commission was canceled due to a lack of a quorum yesterday. Unfortunately, there were two items on the agenda that could not be addressed. The first was approving the LODD of Covington Local 38 Brother Dale Brown and the second was allowing our brother/sisters in Somerset into the incentive pay program. Hopefully, the Board members will take their appointments seriously, and attend the next meeting scheduled for October 17, 2019!!!
As the heat wave covers Kentucky please take precautions to avoid a heat-related illness.
Your Kentucky Professional Fire Fighters want all Kentuckians to have a fun and safe 4th of July!! Fireworks injure more than 10,000 people each year. Don’t be one of the 10,000. #IAFF #IAFFSafetyTips #KPFF

Putting control of local retirement plans is a public safety issue!! Local Control of Local Pensions!! Call 800-372-7181 & urge your legislator to INCLUDE & SUPPORT CERS Separation with Local Control of your firefighters and police officers retirements!! #freeCERS

#NeverForget
9/11 continues to kill firefighters and others today.
Local Control of Local Pensions!! It's time to let local governments follow full accounting rules and make sure that public safety employees and other government employees are there to serve their local citizens. Separate the City-County Employee Retirement System. #freeCERS
Some facts between a Defined Benefit Retirement and a Defined Contribution plan or 401k. A 401k does not provide a disability retirement or line of duty Death Benefit for survivors of injured or fallen firefighters.
Covington Firefighters at work!! pic from Katie Woodring.
The consultant group PFM stated they did not recommend separation of CERS from the Kentucky Retirement System. The Kentucky Professional Firefighters stand by the Kentucky League of Cities and KY Association of Counties that there should be local control of its local pensions. #freeCERS
With the new recommendations of increasing retirement age of firefighters in Kentucky, we will need these signs!!! Firefighters cannot work till their 60's!! This will also drive up workers comp and disability claims!! This is a bad idea for the taxpayer!!
