Here is what you will see today - tons of praise for the LFD, which you should. The boots on the ground that make up the companies on the street are professionals, and high quality people. These are the types of runs we live for. Every day we come to work to make an impact in the lives of this community to help people when they are in the worst of situations. We train so that we are able to thrive when the knockout goes off and incidents like this present themselves.
What you won’t see is a department that every year fights tooth and nail to avoid budget cuts. A department that has had firehouses close and staffing positions cut in recent years. A department that operates with outdated worn down equipment and firehouses on the verge of being condemned. A department that has seen a drastic decrease in applicants because of a lack of a quality retirement and benefits. A department that is going on 9 months since their last union contract expired. But nonetheless the job always gets done, the fires go out and like our own worst enemy we succeed doing more with less.
The brothers and sisters that make up this department will never waiver in their preparation, and will always provide top notch professional service to this city. As the LFD saying goes, “The difficult we do immediately, the impossible takes just a little bit longer.” ... See MoreSee Less

Thursday the first “Fill the Boot” MDA Tailgate Event Keeneland Racetrack went off in splendid fashion as we achieved our fundraising goal. Thanks to all who supported the event. We couldn’t have done it without you.
Special recognition to Judy Taylor . Many know Judy from her work in Frankfort where she served as the Capitol Mother and fierce advocate for the issues dear to her. She truly helped so many, often in ways not known to others because that’s just how she was.
Judy took a call from me this summer as we tried to get this event planned. At the end of the conversation Judy let me know this would be a success and she even committed to cover the cost for the tickets for admission into the track so more of the money raised could go to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
Sadly Judy passed away from a medical emergency and we couldn’t have her there to see the success that she helped create. Rest in peace, Judy, with much love from Lexington’s Firefighters. ... See MoreSee Less
