Within the NFD, the Newport Professional Firefighters Local 45 I.A.F.F. is the leading labor organization representing the members of the Newport Fire/EMS Department. Established in 1918, Local 45 was one of the first sixty-six locals of the now more than 3,100 I.A.F.F. affiliates across the U.S. and Canada. Today, in addition to the business of being a labor organization, Local 45 continues to develop and implement programs to empower and improve the quality of life for families and individuals within our communities and to advance the education of our youth.

SHARE THE LOVE - Joseph Subaru of Florence
Joseph Subaru presented Newport Professional Firefighters Local 45 IAFF with a check from the proceeds of their local Share the Love Campaign.
THANK YOU, Joseph Subaru of Florence for this amazing partnership and friendship. Local 45 is very grateful and excited to be afforded this opportunity to provide more support and assistance to our local community members! ❤
The firefighters of Local 45 place a great importance on our community involvement.
We utilizes the funds for our Community Outreach Program. These programs included but are not limited to:
Annual Scholarships - Local 45 awards three $1,000 scholarships/grant-in-aid to one graduating senior from Newport High School, to one graduating senior from Newport Central Catholic High School, and one child/grandchild of a member annually to assist with their post-secondary education.
Power Pack Program – Local 45 in partnership with Kroger Marketplace (Newport) and the local community members help ensure our children have the fuel and energy to have a successful school year. “Power Packs” provide children in the school with food that can be easily prepared to eat for the weekends, holidays, and now the summer break. These children may otherwise go hungry if they did not receive these packs to take home.
Veterans Honor Flight Sponsorship – honoring a local Veteran for their sacrifices and achievements by flying them through Honor Flight Tri-State to Washington D.C. to see their memorial with a guardian of their choice.
MDA - as IAFF members we stand on the front lines for MDA, working together to free individuals and the families who love them, through support and fundraising, from the harm of muscular dystrophy, ALS and related muscle-debilitating diseases that take away physical strength, independence, and life.
Operation Warm – Operation Warm provides warmth, confidence, and hope to children in need in our community through the gift of brand-new coats. These coats get distributed to the children in our local schools in December.
Beyond the Call – Local 45’s most famous and longest running program within our Community Outreach. This program focuses on providing a special Christmas experience for some of our less fortunate local families. On Christmas Eve, Santa Claus, while riding on a fire truck delivers food and gifts to these families. Families are selected with help of the Newport Schools System-Family Resource Center. ...
